The conversion of this derelict former schoolhouse into tourist accommodation is an exemplar in the creation of a low energy, modern use of a traditional building. High levels of insulation, double-glazed windows and draught-proofing mean the bunkhouse is economical to heat. A new, wheelchair accessible entrance and reception were also added.
Operated by Kintyre Amenity Trust, the bunkhouse is a flagship project for Argyll & Bute Council’s Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) and provides much needed accommodation for visitors on a budget.
